May I congratulate you on being the first to comment? This, coming from a batch that finds a majority of its members placed in IT organizations.

I'll be removing the moderation ASAP. Just testing out features.

Yes, you would be a prime candidate for that core I mentioned. I guess the salesmanship of agents and softare/hardware dealers who come in carrying the deals is more powerful that all the weight you, or any of us, can put on the matter.

First of all, welcome back from your hiatus.

Second of all, what is it with the moderation? That totally sucks. But then again, it is after all your blog, and you are the master of your domain, I assume. So, anyway, that was my 2p.

Now for the issues of having a decent lab. We all try to have decent intentions and in our own ways try to set things what we feel are right. And then somewhere down the line the situation becomes hopeless enough to warrant complete abandonment.

The problem is finding a dedicated Systems guy. I'd love to adminster a lab myself, I really love that kind of a project. But then, other things should be conducive as well.

Time and again, I have tried to put on weight on issues such as the choice of anti-virus and/or the amount of RAM that goes into the systems that our college purchases. But not everything is accepted.

Alas, some things are fucked up, whatever you do.

It's not so much about the sales agents as it is about the admins that our college has. They are absolute dumb-wits, and while they are very good with what they do, they don't ever want to upgrade. You have no idea how much pursuation was needed to get them to go XP. I think the server / one of the machines that does serverish jobs is still 98.

It is a sad sad world.
